Elisp, Scheme, Java, Ruby, Roadies, Splitsvilla, Steve Yegge !
So, these are the topics which I was enlightened about last week. Although I spent more time on the latter 3 topics, I gained the least from them. Steve Yegge's blogs are fun to read and you may even (almost) get the impression that they are informative but to me, they are all but useful. Of course, if you are as jobless as me, sure, give them a shot.
Next comes roadies and splitsvilla !! Ahhh... quite contrary to what I felt earlier, girls in roadies are much hotter than in splitsvilla. Also, politics is dirtier and tasks... well, does splitsvilla have "tasks" or bikini/abs show-offs? Nonetheless, I enjoyed both of them for different reasons and I promise not to waste any more time of my life on them. Suzannaaaaa...Ahem, next !!
I wanted to learn Java. I had to learn Java. People told me to learn Java. I even read on stevey's rants that Java is used everywhere in the industry and hence important to know. But, dil hai ki maantaa nahi !! And thus started my exploration in elisp and scheme and ruby.
I read at various places apart from those rants that Ruby is a very good language to invest your time in (after all, it is supposed to be the OO language) and lisp, especially scheme, is a very simple yet humonguously powerful language, learning which will enhance your programming concepts too. So I started my journey of elisp, saving Ruby for detailed study in the comming months.
While I was in the midst of the tutorial, I felt: I have already wasted almost the whole week reading tidbits here and there. Let us revert back to Java and learn something that might be of immediate in my project as it needs a GUI and apart from that, Java can also be used to deal with databases. Thus, I am back to where I started, reading a Java book. Here's a nice puzzle I found in the book.
Will be back with another blog soon. Till then, bye !
